Blazing Winter Sunset by the Lake on January 16th, 2022.

Digital, 2022.

If you read my previous post, I mentioned that my next would contain the sunset from that same evening. What I was expecting was definitely not a sunset this vibrant. I ended up shooting these photos at another spot a little ways off. To get down to the shore to achieve that, I had to go down a steep and snowy hill. I’m so glad I wasn’t alone as that made the trek easier lest I fall on my face into the snow.

When I looked up at the landscape before me, I felt like the main character in a movie. It was so unreal, I couldn’t believe it. I was also really relieved I had this vantage point, as I wouldn’t have been able to see the sunset in its entirety like this had I stayed in my original spot. Shout out to my brother who found this area while I stayed to take photos in the other one!

When the swans came out to play, I couldn’t help the smile that spread across my face. A vibrant sunset and two swans playing around in the lake? How lucky was I? I really wanted to get a photo of the both of them above the water but it’s almost as if they were teasing me. When one would resurface, the other would lower its head into the water. After a while, the sunset faded enough that there was no point in waiting any longer. But even so, I was far from disappointed!

Tree Branches in Shadow Against a Calm Blue Sky on November 6th, 2021.

Digital, 2021.

I really loved the contrast between the tree and the sky. I thought the shape of the tree and its branches were interesting so I paired them with the clear backdrop of the sky to accentuate them more.

A Rainbow Over Lake Ontario on October 17th, 2021.

Digital, 2021.

I’ve never seen a rainbow over the lake quite like this before. Sometimes, you really just have to be at the right place at the right time. We drove down to the lake for some fresh air and ended up finding a rainbow instead! Looks like there’s a pot of gold right across the lake, too!

Orange Sunset on October 11th, 2021.

Digital, 2021.

It’s been a month since this photo was taken and I still wish I could have seen it at one of my usual sunset viewing locations. Even more so since I had a hunch that that evening’s sunset would be on the more intense side. That afternoon, the clouds had that hazy quality to them that I’ve begun to assciciate with vibrant and intense sunsets. In the evening, I looked out the kitchen window just before sunset and was simultaneously elated and disappointed with what I saw. So I grabbed my camera and rushed outside to the backyard to photograph whatever I could. I’m thankful I was able to capture something, at least. It always becomes a little bit more difficult for me to go sunset chasing when the days get shorter and shorter. Winter hasn’t even begun yet and here I am missing those long, warm, summer nights.

Storm Clouds on August 28th, 2021.

Digital, 2021.

I’m so glad I was able to see this storm rolling in in person. We were parked by the lake and decided to wait it out there to see what would happen. I recorded a time-lapse and posted it to my Instagram Reels and it was so cool seeing for myself just how the clouds moved in. These were all taken from inside the car because I did not want to risk being close by the lake while thunder and lightning were increasing in frequency.

Sunset on August 25th, 2021.

Digital, 2021.

A vibrant sunset at the end of August. Wow, this one was a stunner! These are the kinds of sunsets I look forward to the most, where the sky actually looks like it’s on fire. Whenever I’m done taking photos, I can’t wait to load them up on to my laptop for editing. I’m going to miss sunsets like these once winter rolls around.
