Autumn Scenes at Niagara-on-the-Lake on October 23rd, 2021.

Digital, 2021.

Hello Niagara-on-the-Lake, it’s been a while! This small town is one of my favourite places due to how quiet and quaint it is. It had been a while since we last visited so we decided to head down one weekend. It’s hard to believe these photos were taken in late October. In previous years, red and orange leaves were already in full swing everywhere. This year, it has been unseasonably warm which has prolonged the green leaves of summer. The nature lover in me is ecstatic she could finally capture a people-less photo of the gazebo but the fall foliage lover in me is disappointed she couldn’t take autumn versions of these photos. I thought back to the reds and oranges filling up my phone’s camera roll during October of last year and couldn’t help but feel disappointed. I knew eventually that the weather would cool down and that we would get red leaves but it’s very concerning that it had taken so long.

A Rainbow Over Lake Ontario on October 17th, 2021.

Digital, 2021.

I’ve never seen a rainbow over the lake quite like this before. Sometimes, you really just have to be at the right place at the right time. We drove down to the lake for some fresh air and ended up finding a rainbow instead! Looks like there’s a pot of gold right across the lake, too!

Orange Sunset on October 11th, 2021.

Digital, 2021.

It’s been a month since this photo was taken and I still wish I could have seen it at one of my usual sunset viewing locations. Even more so since I had a hunch that that evening’s sunset would be on the more intense side. That afternoon, the clouds had that hazy quality to them that I’ve begun to assciciate with vibrant and intense sunsets. In the evening, I looked out the kitchen window just before sunset and was simultaneously elated and disappointed with what I saw. So I grabbed my camera and rushed outside to the backyard to photograph whatever I could. I’m thankful I was able to capture something, at least. It always becomes a little bit more difficult for me to go sunset chasing when the days get shorter and shorter. Winter hasn’t even begun yet and here I am missing those long, warm, summer nights.

Overcast Day in Toronto on September 26th, 2021.

Digital, 2021.

A cloudy day spent at Jack Darling Memorial Park. Even though it was cloudy and a little hazy, I’m pleased with how these photos came out. Personally, I think sunny days are usually boring and unflattering in regards to outdoor photography so I love taking photos when it’s cloudy. I’m looking forward to hopefully visiting this park again once the leaves start to change colour.

Waterscapes at Blue Hour on September 25th, 2021.

Digital, 2021.

You can only imagine my amazement once I stepped on to the beach here not expecting much only to be greeted with this view. The skyline is lit up by the city lights, yes, but the majority of that golden light came from the last remaining glow of sunset. What a sight to see in person! I also adored the way the clouds were reflected against the lake’s surface and how beautiful they were lit up.

I don’t usually experiment with long exposures but seeing how lovely these came out makes me want to reconsider. I initially took my shots without a tripod and didn’t really like how they were turning out. I was running out of time and considered it a lost cause. Luckily, my brother was determined to get a shot and he ran to the car to grab the tripod. Great intuition on his part as these images wouldn’t exist otherwise. It’s been so long since I’ve taken a nighttime city shot and now I’m motivated to try and take more!

Niagara Falls on September 25th, 2021.

Digital, 2021.

Hello Niagara, it’s been a while! I’d guess it’s been around 2 years since I’ve last paid a visit. I love Niagara Falls and though I probably already have variations of all these images from past years, I can’t help but to take any photo I can every time I get the chance to visit.

On this day, it was very hazy and the forecast promised rain all day. Though once you’re close enough to the falls, you can’t help but ask yourself if it’s rain or mist surrounding you. Either way, this weather resulted in the most beautiful lighting, especially when the sun would peek out occasionally. Some moments I felt like it was early morning due to the lighting.

I’d like to visit Niagara again and Niagara-on-the-Lake while I’m at it. Hopefully the next time won’t be another two years.
