Niagara’s Botanical Gardens on August 14th, 2022.

Digital, 2022.

The Niagara Botanical Gardens were absolutely stunning. We visited during the late afternoon and I was lucky enough to shoot in hazy and diffused sunlight. Whenever I travel to a new place, I can’t help but wonder what it would look life during different seasons and weather conditions. But for now, summer will have to do.

Toronto Music Gardens on July 14th, 2021.

Digital, 2021.

Another trip to the Toronto Music Gardens! This visit was done on a weekday which resulted in a nearly empty space. I prefer no people in my photographs so that was a bonus for me. Plus, it feels like the whole garden is there just for you.

The Music Gardens initially were meant for the city of Boston but when those plans fell through, Toronto stepped in and the gardens found their home here. Inspired by Bach, the garden is meant to be explored while listening to specific musical pieces. I have not had a chance to try that out myself but I can say that the garden is gorgeous and special all on its own, as well.

Since my first visits here occurred this year during summer, I’m very curious to see what the landscape will look like in autumn, with red and orange leaves everywhere. Or in winter, with fresh snow clinging to the trees and architecture.

Flowers and Rain Drops on July 8th, 2021.

Digital, 2021.

Another “I’m really glad I had my camera on me” moment. It was raining on and off and I thought the lighting made everything look bright and well lit. You know those harsh shadows when it’s very sunny? This was the complete opposite of that. I thought this garden looked very surreal in this overcast light. Something about these flowers with the occasional water droplet just tugged at something in me.

Flowers of the Deceased

Flowers have many meanings and they are often associated with death. In these photographs, those that are deceased are masked with a flower. The viewer knows of their status but they do not know the person’s face nor do they know them as a whole. The space between the flower and the photograph on the scanner bed results in a dreamy hazy effect, adding to the theme of the series.
