Swans in Golden Light on April 16th, 2022.

Digital, 2022.

The mute swans in the first photo were not happy with my presence whereas the trumpeter swan was at ease. The contrast in their feather fluffiness is so amusing to me. The trumpeter swan (and I) have been at this spot a lot longer but these mute swans think they run the show!

In the second photo, I was trying to take a photo of the swan’s ID band on her ankle. Since I was taking photos at a low angle, I couldn’t see what exactly I was capturing. I just went for it and kept snapping. When looking back at the images, I liked this one from a photographic standpoint and decided to keep it.

A Trumpeter Swan and the Beach on April 14th, 2022.

Digital, 2022.

A sweet trumpeter swan spending her afternoon on the beach. She’s lovingly referred to as Pet and she’s so calm and docile. A reason why I love coming here is knowing there’s a good chance I’ll see her. She recognizes me now and it makes me so happy!

Birds on a Winter Afternoon on March 3rd, 2022.

Digital, 2022.

I’ve found a new appreciation for swans in the past few weeks. These guys seem socialized and from my experience, are friendly towards humans. I’ve spent time just sitting by them and observing while they either stand or sit around me. We’ve fed them quite a few times at this point, so I hope they’ve realized we aren’t a threat. It’s always so relaxing to just sit and listen while they honk at each other.
